We have an incredible night of fights to look forward to this weekend at UFC 262, where the vacant UFC lightweight championship will be up for grabs between the No. 3 & No. 4 ranked contenders Charles ‘Do Bronx’ Oliveira and ‘Iron’ Michael Chandler.
Co-headlining the event is also a lightweight match up of ranked contenders, as former interim UFC lightweight champion, No. 5 ranked Tony Ferguson takes on No. 9 ranked Beneil Dariush.
Ferguson was riding the longest win streak in UFC lightweight history (12) going into his second interim title bout this time last year, where he was defeated by Justin Gaethje. He was then defeated by the man fighting for the title in the main event, Charles Oliveira, who came in on a seven-fight win streak.
Now Ferguson gears up to face an Iranian assassin that’s coming in on a six-fight win streak.
As for the main event, we have ‘Do Bronx’, who’s on an eight-fight win streak with seven finishes, facing off against the six-time Bellator lightweight champion Michael Chandler, who’s on a three-fight win streak with all three victories coming via first round KO, the most recent over Dan Hooker in his promotional debut.
There have been a couple great fights cancelled this weekend, such as Leon Edwards versus Nate Diaz in the co-main event. Flyweight contender Matt Schnell was also slated against former title challenger Alex Perez, with Perez pulling out from undisclosed reasons. He was replaced by Rogerio Bontorin, and it’s now a bantamweight bout.
Lastly, a middleweight match up between No. 7 ranked Jack Hermansson and No. 10 ranked Edmen Shahbazyan was scheduled for this event, but it’s been postponed until next week at UFC Vegas 27.
