The world of combat sports is set to have a very busy Saturday November 02, 2019. In the world of MMA you have UFC 244 where Jorge Masvidal will meet Nate Diaz for the “BMF” title and in the world of boxing you have a pound for pound great, Canelo Alvarez (52-1-2) battling Sergey Kovalev (34-3-1) as Alvarez hunts for his fourth different weight division championship. Canelo Looks to Continue Building His Dynasty

The 29 year old Mexican Orthodox fighter has already had quite the career heading into 30 years old. He has held major titles in all four of the major organizations; WBO, WBA, IBF, and WBC. The lineal middleweight champion has only suffered one loss in his 55 fight professional career, and that was to arguably the greatest fighter of this generation, Floyd Mayweather Jr.(50-0.) Since then Canelo has earned a record of 10-0-1 with that draw coming in the initial “GGG” Gennady Golovkin (40-1-1) matchup in September 2017. According to Ring Magazine, Canelo is number three in the pound for pound rankings which can be seen here.

The Dangerous Champion in Kovalev

The 36 year old Kovalev may not have the name Camelo does in the United States, but the Russian knockout artist will be no easy task for Canelo as he moves up in weight. A move up in weight means an “up” in power. Kovalev can deliver that power winning via KO/TKO in 29 of his 34 victories. The Ring named Kovalev as their 2014 fighter of the year. Two of Kovalev’s three losses came to future hall of famer Andre Ward who retired with an undefeated record of 32-0. In his fighter of the year 2014 year, Kovalev defeated Bernard Hopkins for the WBA (super) and IBF light heavyweight titles. “The Krusher” is known for his big hitting power while Canelo is known for his amazing counter strikes. Look for this to lead to an interesting battle.
