Eddie Bravo was a recent guest on The Joe Rogan Podcast, where after a brief and disappointing trademark Bravo diatribe on flat-earth theory, and with Rogan imploring him to change topics, Bravo began talking about helping Ferguson prepare for his fight with Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone this Saturday night. Rogan, all too eager to shift topics, asked if Bravo had been working with Ferguson:
“Fuck yea!! He’s sharper, stronger, in the best shape of his life.”
“He’s sharper than ever. You can’t guarantee any wins, but I will guarantee that he’s going to go in 100% Tony.”
Due to personal issues, Ferguson hasn’t fought since an outstanding performance against Anthony Pettis at UFC 229 in October of last year. Many people are wondering if Ferguson will be the same dominant force in the Octagon that he was before his recent setback. There’s no such doubt in Eddie Bravo’s mind.
“It’s the same Tony.. When it comes to fighting, we don’t get into personal stuff, we just stick to fighting and strategy. He’s sharper than ever. You can’t guarantee any wins, but I will guarantee that he’s going to go in 100% Tony.”
Cerrone has been on a tear recently, going 3-0 since last November with impressive wins against Mike Perry, Alexander Hernandez and Al Iaquinta, getting “Cowboy” back into talks of title contention. Rogan and Bravo discussed how good of a match up his fight with Ferguson is, and how they have similar fighting styles. Rogan opined:
“They both have everything. They both have great striking, they both have great submissions.”
“I can show him a very complicated transition, and after like 4 or 5 reps he’s got it down, and most people it takes 6 months.”
Both fighters have earned black belts in jiu jitsu, however neither is afraid to stand up and exchange. Ferguson is a black belt in 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu under Eddie Bravo, and Bravo commented on what it’s like training Tony Ferguson:
“He’s always studying, always adding new weapons to his arsenal, always adding something to his workout routine. He has the ability to focus more than anybody I know. He has so much focus, I don’t have to reteach him shit. I can show him a very complicated transition, and after like 4 or 5 reps he’s got it down, and most people it takes 6 months. It doesn’t take him long to learn shit. [And] he doesn’t forget it, that’s the most important thing.”
You can catch Tony Ferguson take on Donald Cerrone this Saturday, June 8th, at UFC 238 on ESPN Plus PPV. Action begins at 5:15 CDT with the Fight Pass early Prelims, and the main card commences at 9:00.
